Welcome

I would like to welcome everyone to the Loutit District Library's blog for Grand Haven area genealogy. We hope this will provide a way to communicate with other people across the country about local families. You can also ask me questions about area history and families.

Thank you, a very cool way to communicate with fellow family historians. Here's hoping that the Grand Haven Genealogical Society can be reborn this winter.

I am searching for the following families of:
Ephraim & Mary Whitmore Peck (Michigan)
Albert & Josephine Tern Northquist (Cadillac)
Frank & Anna Tyc Benes (Grand haven & Chicago)
Amasa & Hannah Stimson (Middleville)

Hi All:

I've hit a roadblock! I'm trying to find any information on the death of Thomas (aka Tymen/Tijmen) Koetsier, b. 1834 in Netherlands married to Jennie Van Hall in Grand Haven in 1879. I can not find him in the cemetery records or the death records for Ottawa County. Based upon other information I have uncovered it appears he would have died sometime between 1879 and 1900. Anyone have a suggestion on where to look next? (Oh...I also looked at the will records between 1860 and 1880--no luck.) His wife lived in Grand Haven until her death in 1913. Thanks for any help!

Hi All,

I would like to share some of my data on my family with the library. I grew up in Spring Lake but now live in Florida. Is there a way to share photos / trees etc. electronically with the library?

Also there used to be a program on Centennial families for the Tri Cities. Is that program still in use?

Thanks, Matt
